40Gb/s Surface mount transceiver






Our surface-mount miniature optical engine is designed to be mounted directly on PCB boards. Typical applications include chip to chip interconnects, backplane interconnects, or high density replacement of four 10 Gb/s SFP+ or Fiber Channel optical interfaces.

This full-duplex optical module offers 4 transmit and 4 receive channels, each capable of up to 10Gbps, for a total aggregate bandwidth of 40Gbps. Several engines can be combined to achieve higher aggregate bandwidth. At 16x16x2.83 mm, this compact solution enables very high-density interconnects. The dissipated power at room temperature is typically only 600 mW per 40Gb/s engine. The engine mounts to the board via a very low profile LGA socket.

Each high-speed channel is compliant with the electrical and optical interface described in the SFP + MSA (SF -8431). The optical engine operates on standard multimode fiber systems using a standard wavelength of 850nm. Therefore, the optical engine can be used as a space and power saving replacement for four independent 10 Gb/s SFP modules, or one QSFP module. It will interoperate with any standard compliant SFP+ or QSFP at the other end of the link. Several fiber pigtail terminations options are available, including an MTP ® (MPO) 1x12 fiber connector or a miniature MTP ferrule.
